Swift Decision for Haslam

World Superbike star, Leon Haslam will be taking to the newly built Mallory Park Rallycross track as he competes for the first time in the Mirror.co.uk Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship.

Haslam is currently competing in the World Superbike Championship for Stiggy Honda where he has achieved four podium finishes this season. He is riding for a privateer team so finishing on the podium is quite an accolade, and he is also running sixth overall in the very competitive championship.

He has just signed to race for Alstare Suzuki and it is a Suzuki Swift that he will be racing this weekend in the BTRDA Championship. The deal came about following a PR event where Haslam met up with members of the Bill Gwynn rally school. They were impressed with his driving antics and invited him to take part in the Mirror.co.uk Kumho Tyres MSA British Rallycross Championship.

Haslam said: "I'm over the moon with this new opportunity. I think it will be really good fun. I was down in Banbury doing a PR event and playing around in some buggies when I was asked to take part in the Rallycross, I was delighted to be given the chance. Its something new and different for me and it's at Mallory Park which is right on my door step."

John Ward, Mallory Park's General Manager said: "I'm really pleased that Leon is joining us. It is a good crossover of disciplines and will bring in some interest from the bike world too. I imagine he is pretty handy in a car so I don't think he will let the side down."
The final round of the World Superbikes is at Parkalgar in Portugal on the 25th October where Haslam will return to his own sport.
