New & improved! 2011 British Rallycross Championship package revealed

A revised and improved package of events will make up the 2011 Quaife MSA British Rallycross Championship.

The changes have been introduced as the championship continues to grow and to bring a clear delineation between the MSA series and the BTRDA Clubmans Championship. The two series will continue to share a number of events during the year.

"Last year was the first that Lydden Hill Motorsport Club had control over the championship and these changes are as a result of what we learned and experienced, as well as addressing competitor concerns and interests – both in placing a greater focus on the British championship in terms of marketing and publicity at the same time as trying to make sure the Clubman competitor is accommodated at a sensible price point and has the chance to race at BRC events," said championship promoter Amy Doran.

The MSA British Rallycross Championship title will now be exclusively for drivers in the Supercar class, a new MSA award for the two-wheel drive class – which will be rebranded Supernational – being introduced to the series. The new name for the class both differentiates it from the SuperModified category in the BTRDA series and adopts a title already used for similar two-wheel drive categories in Scandinavia. Like those series, the British Supernational will include sub-groups for European championship-type Super1600 and Touring Car spec machines.

The supporting package at BRC events will comprise the Swift Sport one-make series, RX150 'buggies' and the MSA Swift Junior Rallycross championship. Two new groups will also join the BRC series; the MINI one-make category and a Hot Hatch category for 1600cc/16v 'production' cars, the latter group restricted to models that are not more than 10-years-old. Entry fees for the championships have been standardised with all classes in the BRC package paying £pound;220 per event and Clubmans entry fees pegged at £190.

The Quaife MSA British Rallycross Championship will also continue to be broadcast by Motors TV, the 'high speed television' channel starting the year with a four-hour live show from the first round of the championship on March 27. Additional television coverage will come in the form of three programmes on Channel 4, each featuring highlights of two or three championship events.
