Pat Doran won round three of the Quaife MSA British Rallycross Championship at Mondello Park on Sunday (June 12), the third different event winner this year. The win moves Doran clear at the top of the championship points table, the title holder going three points clear of Julian Godfrey.
The championship's return to Ireland after a two year break was met by rain that made the first two sets of qualifying heats very difficult. Godfrey set fastest time in the first heat, Doran then going ahead in the second and matching it with third fastest from the third heat to take pole ahead of Godfrey. Round one winner Andy Scott set FTD in the drying third heat and claimed the five bonus points for doing so, but had a short run in the final where he went off in the first lap.
Godfrey ran second until sliding wide at the end of the first lap, George Tracey and David Binks gaining ground. Tracey closed on Doran but himself came under a last gasp challenge from Godfrey who repassed Binks in the fourth lap before challenging Tracey, but finishing third. Fighting back from transmission problems in practice, Steve Hill placed fifth in his Mitsubishi E10, local man David Dempsey and Ulsterman Derrick Jobb completing the finishers.
